How do I erase traces of files on a computer. I have deleted my docs & cookies. What else do I need to delete?
The new company that took over my division just sent out an email that we are no longer allowed to use our laptops for personal usage even though we normally do 12 hour days. Next week they are going to "review" our laptops for non company usage. I have been using the laptop to run a small Ebay biz on the side. I have deleted my word and excel documents and cookies but I’ve heard that they are still files and internet traces that they can find. I need this job, please help.

A little less drastic than reformatting the hard drive is to use a file erase utility. This class of utility overwrites the file to be erased with a number of different patterns making it [virtually] impossible to recover any data from the file when it is deleted. You’ll find commercial and freeware products for this purpose by doing a search for "file erase utility."
Reformat the HDD.
