Microsoft Windows Vista Can Be Rocky Terrain, Warns Computer Troubleshooters

Since the release of Microsoft Windows Vista, Computer Troubleshooters across Canada and around the world have been flooded with calls from people who want to upgrade to Vista. Computer Troubleshooters, an international IT solution provider for home and small businesses, is warning Canadians of the potential challenges and risks when upgrading to Vista.
“Today we rely on computers not just for business but at also to keep our home lives running smoothly,” said Chris Aconley, National Director of Computer Troubleshooters Canada. “Because home computers manage family and social communication, entertainment and our personal finances, it may not be worth the risk of downtime to upgrade to Microsoft Windows Vista.”
According to Aconley, there are four reasons not to upgrade:
1. The cost of hardware upgrades and labour may not be justified
2. Your existing hardware likely cannot handle Vista requirements
3. Software you currently run may not be compatible with Vista
4. Don’t change for the sake of change when Windows XP is running well
While Computer Troubleshooters doesn’t recommend upgrading to Vista without knowing that your existing computer system can handle it, Aconley recognizes its value on new machines that meet the hardware requirements. “Any new computers purchased for home or office should be purchased with enough memory and a fast enough CPU to run Vista. A copy of Vista should be included with the purchase of any new computer,” said Aconley.
With each new Microsoft operating system comes significant improvements. Microsoft Windows Vista is no different. If your current computer system can successfully be upgraded, the Microsoft website lists 100 reasons why you should run Vista. A few reasons to use Vista include improved security, automated backups, and a full entertainment suite.
Aconley says over time software vendors will update their software to allow it to run on Vista. As well, hardware vendors will supply drivers for their hardware to Microsoft so that their hardware will work with Vista. Microsoft will be quickly releasing security patches, service packs and updates. Once these three things happen, Vista will become a viable and recommended solution for home and business computers.
“Until then, you need to ask yourself if it’s worth the potential risk and hassle to upgrade,” said Aconley.
